Low oil pressure warning Giulia - Stelvio 2.2 JTD.A major issue almost every owner has experienced or heard of.There's countless topics about it; some say it's the 0W20 oil, others blaim the oil filter, the oil pump is told to be bad and some even say the centrifugal filter (of the crankcase ventilation) causes it. Also the rubber oil pump seal is mentioned, but strangely enough replacing this part not always solves the issue. So what is really going on here? We have investigated the problem and made a permanent fix for it.The issue is actually twofold. First of all, the stock oil pump suction seal is a weak design, which will detoriate over time. It's often the case at older cars fitted with the 1750 TBI, 1.6 and 2.0 jtd engine that uses the same seal, creating a low oil pressure warning during cold start. However, in case of the Giulia and Stelvio the problem is much more serious. We have witnissed low oil pressure warnings at full throttle acceleration, which is very, very dangerous and has actually killed numerous 2.2 JTD engines. The second problem here is the alignment of the seal regards to the oil suction pipe in the oil pan. We have seen bad alignments with the seal lip sitting at the outer edge of the sealing surface. This alignment cannot be seen during assembly, as the stock seal is simply compressed when the oil pan is bolted to the engine. With our oil pump seal modification however, the part is mounted to the oil suction pipe and proper alignment is simply needed otherwise you cannot get the oil pan mounted. This is because the seal modification has to slide into the oil pump bore.We were in contact with Nicolas, a mechanic that also has a youtube channel. He was struggling with a Giulia with the low oil pressure problem. The oil seal and even the complete oil pump were replaced but didn't help. After opening the engine sump for the 3rd time, and fitting our oil pump seal modification, the issue was finally resolved. He made a great informative video about the mounting process, so make sure to check it out:youtu.be/b-60aJFxwyg?si=Ie6fobXncVTPp3o8The seal modification can be found here: jtd-performance.com/en/product/oil-pump-seal-modification-jtd-tbi/ ... Newly developed for the Giulia/Stelvio 2.2 JTD, EGR delete kits. To fully remove the EGR pipe which is obstructing airflow in the intake manifold entry and close it with a CNC aluminium blank. In order to shut the lower part we've made a stainless steel end cap with threaded bush to seat the EGR temperature sensor (which has no longer a function). Available in the webshop soon! ... Giulia 2.2 JTD big turbo upgrade part 5:In the previous update we explained the initial tuning issues we had with the 2262 spec turbo. So in the meantime we opened it, changed the VNT lever to a longer one -same as used at the 2060- and adjusted the minimum flow/vnt opening at a flow rig.We tested it, and although it is much better than before we still aren’t exactly pleased with the performance. In terms of ultimate power it is better than the 2060 as we recorded ~320 hp with the Performance Logger. However the torque and the turbo spool is a lot worse. This in a way that the power advantage of roughly 10 hp does not outweigh the loss in driveability. So is that it? The 2060 is a much better match than the 2262 for this 2143 cc engine? We don’t think so, something is still off with the 2262. What we realized is, the existing parameters in the OBD are not enough. There’s quite a bit of sensors at the stock JTD engine but a big portion is emission related and we want to log more performance related parameters such as exhaust manifold pressure (EMP), pressure and temperature at the compressor inlet and outlet, pressure and temp difference over the intercooler and so on. So for the next step we purchased several pressure and temperature sensors and a device to monitor and log these extra sensors. With that information not only can we better tune the 2262 but also find performance losses in the intake and exhaust system which we can improve. Because, looking at the power curves with both turbos, both are very flat topped, indicating something is preventing full potential. As for the 2.2 JTD engine it selves, we looked at the cylinder head and it is very similar to the 2.0 JTD, with smaller exhaust valves and ports than the ones found in the 1.9 JTD 16v engine, which is not beneficial for scavenging the cylinders at higher rpm. This opposed to the low rpm performance, where the 2.2 is superior. Our goal is to optimize all the exterior parts of the engine to see how much power and torque with a solid, street useable powerband we can achieve from a stock 2.2 engine. Stay tuned. ...
