After several developments regarding 2.2 JTD engine parts, there is also some news for the 1.6-2.0 JTD. Starting with the new EGR delete kit, similair to the 2.2 JTD version with a anodised billet aluminium plug with O-ring for the intake manifold and a blanking plate to close the lower port.With this set it's possible to remove the nasty EGR tube sitting in the intake air passage. The Giulia 2.2 Twincharged JTD post had a lot of views and generally positive reactions. Ofcourse there were also a few sceptical comments about the effectiveness of the system. We have presented the differences in intake pressure to engine speed, and also the torque and power with the TorqAmp on and off in a separate post.Let's zoom in on the new intake system, so it is more clear how the TorqAmp is able to create overpressure in the turbocharger inlet.We have removed the silicone hose in the photos below so you can see the aluminium tube that is sitting in front of the turbocharger. It is equipped with a spring loaded one way valve, making sure air generated by the Torqamp cannot reverse flow into the airbox. As the tube has a 90mm diameter, the flow area with the valve is not restrictive to the air flow at higher engine speeds.A one way valve is also present at the FPT 1.9 JTD biturbo engine, in the form of a springloaded ball valve.And to record the pressure (and temperature) at the turbocharger inlet, we mounted sensors in that area. The pressures can be seen in the graph below. Normally we have a negative pressure, or pressure drop of about 0.05 bar at the compressor inlet during full power. With the Torqamp on, this becomes a positive pressure with a maximum of 1.38 bar absolute, very close to the advertized 1.4 pressure ratio. This pressure that instantly builds up with the throttle pedal down gives us a much steeper increase of manifold pressure or air density. In the pressure graphs there is also the green curve that represents turbine inlet pressure, or EMP, and this is a very important one for power output. Measure that on any Giulia 2.2 hybrid turbo and you will find much higher values. The ~1:1 scavenge ratio at top power results in a much happier engine, with also lower EGT and better fuel economy.Stay tuned. ... See MoreSee Less
